Eastwood Private Hospital sod turning event marks milestone as construction begins for Barwon’s latest healthcare asset

November 27, 2023 / Healthcare Property

Barwon Investment Partners (Barwon) is proud to have been a part of the momentous occasion of the Eastwood Private Hospital official sod-turning event, marking the commencement of construction for an innovative healthcare facility. This project, valued at $90 million, is the latest development within the  Barwon Institutional Healthcare Property Fund (Fund) stable.

The Eastwood Private Hospital is set to become a cornerstone in healthcare, with a particular emphasis on orthopaedic surgery aimed at reducing patient wait times—a critical need in the region. The six-storey facility will house 51 beds, offering comprehensive medical services, including medical imaging and pathology. In addition, a modern café and retail area will provide a welcoming environment for patients and visitors.

This groundbreaking initiative is a testament to the commitment of the  Barwon Healthcare Property team, sourcing and investing in assets to enhance healthcare options for the region. The focus on orthopaedic surgery is a strategic move to address the growing demand and streamline the patient care process.

The new development is designed to feature high-quality operating theatres, a pivotal element aimed at significantly reducing surgery waiting times. The facility is poised to admit over 7,000 patients annually, directly addressing critical healthcare needs in the community.

“We are thrilled to mark the beginning of construction for the Eastwood Private Hospital,” said Tom Patrick, Head of Healthcare Property at Barwon. “This project represents a substantial investment in the health and well-being of the community of Eastwood and is a testament to the team’s ability to source and deliver quality healthcare facilities. With a focus on orthopaedic surgery, we aim to make a meaningful impact on reducing patient wait times and providing high-quality healthcare services.”

The Eastwood Private Hospital is scheduled for completion in mid-2025, marking an exciting milestone for the region. The facility is expected to be a beacon of innovation and excellence in healthcare, delivering comprehensive services to meet the diverse needs of the community.

As construction progresses, Barwon looks forward to collaborating with the community and stakeholders to ensure the Eastwood Private Hospital becomes a centre of excellence in healthcare.

Barwon is currently targeting a 4-star Green Star rating at the Eastwood Private Hospital, demonstrating a commitment to ESG initiatives in the Fund.

The Fund currently comprises 29  healthcare properties valued at over $1.4 billion and continues to receive strong support from institutional investors. With the inclusion of undrawn funds, the Fund has the capacity to grow to over $2.0 billion. Barwon continues to actively invest in all sectors of healthcare real estate.
