Revisiting Listed Private Equity Amid Market Volatility

In a period marked by heightened global trade tensions and rising capital costs, many investors are reassessing their strategies in search of stability and value. In this FT Adviser article, Barwon Investment Partners’ Portfolio Manager Bob Liu explores why listed private equity is uniquely positioned to offer both. With listed vehicles trading at historically wide discounts to net asset value — often exceeding 35% — the current environment presents an opportunity to access high-quality private market exposure with transparency, liquidity and valuation upside.

Bob argues that while short-term sentiment has depressed listed private equity pricing, the fundamentals of these portfolios remain strong. He outlines Barwon’s approach to navigating this space, including a focus on low leverage, recurring revenues and resilient business models in sectors such as healthcare, technology and infrastructure.

Periods of dislocation, he writes, can offer some of the most compelling entry points for long-term investors.
